About the artist:

Phillip has been honing his photography skills since his teenage years in scenic Uptown New Orleans. A 1984 Communications graduate of Loyola University, Phillip has enjoyed past careers as a radio personality, television camera man, corporate audio visual producer, and staff photographer for a distributor in the professional salon industry - where he was called upon to photograph literally everything from fashion shoots and staff portraits to runway models, event documentation, product shots and interiors… even parties, ribbon cuttings and architecture.

Phillip photographed his first wedding for a coworker in 1996, and has documented weddings as far away as Palm Beach, FL and Wilmington, NC, and as close as his family’s living room. He continues to learn wedding and portrait photography under many of the country’s top wedding photographers, and regularly attends educational events as a member of the Professional Photographers of America. In 2007, Phillip earned the credential of Certified Professional Photographer and is one of less than 2,500 photographers worldwide to hold that certification.

Also a member of the Hammond Chamber of Commerce, Phillip’s photography has helped secure various New Orleans Fashion Council Alpha Awards in 1997, 2000, 2003 and 2004 in hairstyling and product design categories for Paris Parker Salon Spas and Kay-la Purses. His commercial clients include Canadian National Railway, Legatus International, Renaissance Learning, Etopa, the Hammond Downtown Development District and Tangi Lifestyles Magazine.

Current and past exhibit locations include First Guaranty Bank, Submerge, Garrisons, Exotic Pets, PJ’s and North Cypress Fitness. He has also exhibited at every annual Hot August Night event in Historic Downtown Hammond, and is preparing to launch a line of his N’Awlins photo art in a French Quarter gift shop.

Phillip Colwart Photography’s portrait studio opened in 2005 and continues to service families with children and moms-to-be, high school seniors and busy professionals with corporate headshots.  His work can be seen at phillipcolwart.com and phillipcolwartphotography.blogspot.com.
